We’re trying to establish an HD editing workflow at our editing facility. Here’s what we would like to accomplish:

    1. We’d like to capture footage from HDCAM and have it saved in a lower rezolution offline file format on a centralized Network storage for editing in Premiere Pro. Which codec should we use to create this offline file? What HD-SDI card should we use to capture this footage?
    2. If we go HDV, can we create these offline files by capturing through the firewire port or do we have to use another capture card for creating something other than the Cineform files?
    3. We will probably online using Cineform, but what’s the easiest method for taking an offline project and relinking the media to the online clips? Do we need to recapture using the original tapes? Is there a way to capture both an online and an offline file at the same time?

    Thanks-
    Jeremy

Look into the white paper of Dust to Glory. I don’t have the link handy, but it’s on the Premire Pro user’s group page. They discuss these issues a bit in there, but they use Cineform Prospect HD with Premiere to acheive the online end product and Avid Xpress DV (I think) to do the offline.

I’ve also had some GREAT discussions with the Cineform folks and they are very helpful. If you contact them directly, they might have a solution for you…
