Editing HD in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
Hi,
I’m planning on purchasing a new computer to edit HD video. The video format will be Cineform HD AVIs (converted AVCHD files from a Sony HD Camera).
Could someone take a look at this system I’ve configured at the Digital Storm website and let me know if this is over-kill, or if the system would work well with HD.

My main questions are:
Should I get a solid state hard drive for the system? (most of the footage will be on external hard drives)Is the Radeon HD 6990 4GB Video card a good choice?
Is there anything missing from this system configuration that I’d need for HD editing?

If you want to take advantage of MPE hardware you need a Nvidia graphicscard.

This is depending on your budget but…
You need to focus your money on 1)Adobe Software 2)Graphics Card and 3) RAM.
The MPE Hardware mentioned above, is the Mercury Playback Engine. But it is only on PP CS5 not on CS4 which is what you are looking at. It uses the graphics card for a lot of acceleration (real-time effects, little to no rendering time) and it really made my editing workflow faster.
Again, all this depends on your budget but if you already have CS4 consider an upgrade to CS5.5 and get a graphics card that is compatible with the MPE and you could really be smoking.
