Place an event on the time line. Grab ahold of the end of the event and drag it backwards (back toward the beginnijng) You have shortened the evvent. But you havre not done anything to your original footage. Vegas is a non-destructive editor. If yiu don’t like the place you shortened it to drag it either way to shoorten or lengthen it.

Another way is tgo place youre curser at the desired end of the clip and press S (split) then delete the last half. Again it does not do anything to your original footage or that in the project media. Missed the split spot,? drag the end to where you want it.

By clicking on the plus sign in the lower right corner of the time line you can expand your vision of ther event. You can take it out so that every time you click the right arrow it willmove the curser one frame. Don’t like that frame? PLace the curser at the front of that frame and hit S and then delete it. Don’t forget to close up your gap or use ‘auto ripple’ to automatically close it. Be careful you don’t leave this on it can cause problems when yoou don’t expect it.

So, adding to the original posters question — You have to drag a clip to the timeline to edit it? What if I have a 5 min clip, but only want :05 seconds of it? This seems ridiculously hard and time consuming. How do you insert edit? Is there a way to set up a source/record method of editing similar to Avid, Final Cut or Premiere?

If you have a 5 minute clip and want .05 seconds of it, then open it in the trimmer, select the little bitty portion you want, and drag it to the timeline. It’s no big deal to add a small portion of a clip.
