  • editing compressed videos ( .mov-Sorenson 3)

I have been struggling to figure out why I can import some of my quicktime videos for editing in Vegas and not others.

All of my videos were originally avi files. In Vegas, I have rendered them as:

.mov uncompressed & .mov compressed ( 3 Mbps, Sorensen 3)

Then, I try to open those files in Vegas- the uncompressed is fine but the compressed file opens only with a black screen for video and the audio is fine.

I read the posts about reverting to an older version of quicktime and purchasing quicktime pro ( which I did) and but that didn’t change anything. So, I am wondering if my preferences settings are correct ( I uncheked ignore 3rd party codecs) and I am wondering, is it just not possible to edit video once it has been compressed?

I also have another machine where none of the quicktime files are opening for editing in Sony vegas at all so this question is part of trouble shooting a larger problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What version of Vegas are you using?

What version of Qucktime do you have installed?

Vegas 9.0c and earlier (Vegas 8,7,6, etc.) will only work with Quicktime 7.6.2 or earlier. Vegas 9.0d and later will work with the latest Quicktime.

Also, why are you rendering AVI files (the native format of the PC) to MOV files (the native format for Mac)?
