  • Editing clips to playhead & inserting clip between 2 clips -DOUBTS

    I have 2 doubts/issues in PP:

1.I’m trying my best to use more of keyboard shortcuts. So after selecting in/out points on a clip & I want to add it to the timeline TO THE POINT WHERE THE PLAYHEAD/MARKER is placed, how do I do this ? When I press the ‘,’ comma , it APPENDS the clip to the end of the sequence.

    2. What is the easy way to insert a clip between 2 clips in a sequence ? ( Apart from using mouse, dragging the entire set of clips on the right a little further away ,creating some space in between, then inserting the clip there using the mouse and then RIPPLE Delete the gap) )

    Thanks in advance !

[1] Try the period key instead of the comma key.

[2] Assuming from your description that there isn’t a gap between your clips and you want to drop another clip in there (destructive overwrite edit), create a 3-point edit. Set an in and out point on the timeline where you want the clip to drop in. Set an in point in your source monitor where you want the inserted clip to begin. Set your track patch (if necessary) and press the period key.

Want to do that without the destructive insert to see of you like the flow? Just patch the insert to an empty layer above your other video layer!

If you have no in or out points in your time line, Premiere Pro assumes your CTI position is the in point for an overwrite.

    Shravan,

Check to see if you have In and/or Out points in your timeline. If you do, Premiere will use those to determine where to place your clip, NOT where your playhead is.

Traditional editing is often called “three point editing,” where you set an In and Out point on your clip, then either an In or an Out point in your sequence (timeline), which makes three points. (You can also do it the other way: set an In and Out in your timeline, and then just an In or an Out in your clip–either way, you have three points.) Then when you press period for overwrite edit or comma for insert edit, Premiere will use the In or Out in your timeline. Does that make sense?

Basically, if you have an In or Out point set in sequence, Premiere will ignore your playhead position.

And that’s your answer for your second question. Either position your playhead or set an In point between the two clips in the sequence. Then set your In and Out in the clip you want to cut in. Press comma and it will make a ripple edit.

If you try this and weird things happen, check your track targeting buttons at the left side of the timeline.

    Thanks Benjamin,Jon.

    Yeah I understood it now.

I’ll set in an in & out point to my clip.
Then will set just an In point on my timeline from where I want the clip to be placed, and then hit the ‘,’ .

    Thanks much !
