July 14, 2010 at 5:55 pmHere’s a sweet primer on Grinder:

While MPEG Streamclip is free, Grinder is much more featured and straight forward. Plus it’s only $49 US.
As far as the Canon install, it should just work if your machine/software is up to spec.

July 16, 2010 at 5:55 amCan I assume that time of day TC works nicely for muticlip editing of multi cam shoots?

If you have it PRECISELY on the nose, yes. But for multicamera shoots, you should always try to slate somehow…even having someone clap. TOD will get you close, so you can find all the shots to group. But you need a common mark in order to be precise.

July 27, 2010 at 2:18 pmWhen using the Canon EOS Log and Transfer plugin I found it to sometimes not be reliable.
Occasionally I will have imported clips that are much shorter than the original. Re-importing the clips with Log and Transfer doesn’t solve the problem. Has anyone else run into this problem? The editing systems I am using are running 10.5.8 with FCP 6.06.I have been using MPEG Streamclip, which hasn’t shortened any clips, but as noted before, still has TC starting at 0. Have to try the programs that were mentioned, if production time allows.

July 29, 2010 at 5:47 amI Found that when your multitasking within FCP you get the shortened clips, or when your working off a external HD with a slower connection. Doesn’t seem to be an exact science but it is fixable.

You have to have the original file structure preserved from the shoot.

September 27, 2010 at 4:47 pmAt first I tried importing directly from the CF card reader. Then I tried copying the files to my desktop keeping the original folder and the Misc folder. But nothing appears in log and transfer. I’m sure it’s operator error, but what am I doing wrong?

September 27, 2010 at 4:50 pmOK, so you have a folder on your hard drive (you should copy the entire card contents a new folder on a hard drive, don’t do this from the CF card). In that folder you have a DCIM and MISC folder, correct? What’s in the DCIM folder?

September 27, 2010 at 5:06 pmThank you for the help with this! The CF card has two folders on it. One called “C camera B Roll” and One called “MISC”. MISC is empty, as always. The “C camera B roll folder” has a folder inside called 100EOS5D. Inside that folder are the MVI_xxxx.MOV files and the MVI_XXXX.THM files.
The CF card does not appear in FCP but it mounts just fine on the desk top. I have copied both the “C camera B Roll” folder and the MISC. to the desktop. Nothing appears in the Log and Transfer window.
