  • editing an EDL on Excell?

    Hi there,

    I have to edit (correct in-points and out-points) of an edl I generated on FCP (the TC of the dv tape I received doesn’t match the Beta master’s TC).

    What’s the safest/ best way to manually enter/change an EDL and what file format should I save it on?

    Thanks!

    This might work better:

    Modify the timecode of your quicktimes to match the Beta master. Assuming your timecode is offset by the same amount.

    Then you can make a new EDL and no need to hand fix the old EDL

    Aaron,

    I don’t think I can manually change the TC of the QT I have already captured in FCP.

    Can I?

    1. Double-click clip to open in viewer,

    2. Choose Modify -> Timecode

    Just for the records:
    “Modify Timecode” only works really for QT movies not for QT compatible movies or files – though FCP will store a record about the changes in the project where you did this changes and it probably will work.
    But using QT compatible movies or files with modified TC will show up with blank or different data when used within another project if the project where you modified the data is not open, this also may happen if you “Media Manage” the files or import them into another project which a different setup.
    As said this only valid for “QT compatible movies or files” compared to “QT movies” – so don’t worry too much, but keep it in mind.
