Editing 24pA from SONY HVR V1U in FCP
I’m starting a project that was shot on a SONY HVR V1U in 24pA and will be editing in FCP 5.1. The producer wants the film look.
I’ve received various information about how best to capture and edit the material from various ‘experts’ in the field. I’m still confused as to how to progress.
I’ve followed instructions from ‘Digitalcontentproducer.com – Editing the V1’s 24p in FCP: A workaround’. THis invloved capturing using the AIC 1080i60 preset, using cinema tools to reverse telecine on each clip, and editing on AIC1080i60 sequences, with frame rate set to 23.98. My end result was terrible problems with interlacing in the final timeline.
How do I import this material? What settings do I use for capture?
Once I have it, do I have to convert it before I work with it?
What should the settings for my sequences be?
Once it’s finished how do I export it?
Many thanks for any help anyone can give me. All explainations / information welcome.

Why did you shoot in 24pA? I am a brand new owner or 2 V1Us and I’m trying to figure out my workflow for HDV 24p as well.
I could be mistaken, but I thought you should only use 24pA when intending to deliver to film. any thoughts???

I’m afraid I’m just editing the project. All planning and decisions were made before I became involved in the project.
The producer told me they shot in this mode because she wanted the film look, and she heard this was the way to go. Pretty vague I’m afraid.
Anyone got any info?

Thats what NON 24pA mode (24P) is for.
so you can capture what looks like 24p on 60i and not have a big huge problem like they now have.You might have to dub those tapes over as 60i to get it to work right.
