  • Editing 1280x720x32 tga image sequence too slow. Solution?

My original footage is, as mentioned,
a 1280x720x32 tga image sequence. (its CG generated material, and no, there is no other format available)

Importing the sequence into Vegas worked fine.
However, the performance is fairly poor (on draft auto preview, i have approx. 5fps) Btw. my Machine Has 3GHZ and 4GB RAM.

So, even though i know this is not ideal,
i have to recompress in a HD progressive video format to be able
to edit it in a decent way.

I now chose .avi -> Cineform HD Codec V2.8 (HDV 720-25p) which seemed to look fine and also is pretty playable.
still have to see how it’ll look if i do the final render.
(to different formats. PAL, HD, web)

    Anyone has a better choice?
    Thankful for feedback.

    tobias.

is larger than the difference between them in theory…

You could use the Quicktime Animation codec. As the name implies, it is designed for compressing animation and does a really good job of it. One of the nice things is it supports 32-bit with alpha channel in case your want to use animations as overlays.

If you are happy with Cineform it should maintain good quality even after repeated renders. There’s nothing wrong with sticking with that.
