  • Edited in wrong sequence setting.

Posted by Kirk Thompson on November 5, 2008 at 11:39 pm

This is part 2 for me. I captured a HDV tape correctly but edited it in wrong sequence setting. I was advised by this forum to set new sequence and copy and paste in the old sequence and everything would work. I was able to copy and paste but the size of the video was very small. Didnt fit the viewer window for the new timeline? Does that make sense? What are the settings I should have for the new sequence? It’s supposed to be a 16-9 setting so it fits on their tv set properly. I edited an entire wedding ( 40 hours ) in the wrong setting and this client is about to sue me if I can’t fix this.

    Hi Kirk,
Select all the stuff in the time line and “Remove attributes: Basic Motion+ Distort”.
This is a question for the FC Basics forum.

Not sure if that was an insult or not? It’s ok if it is… 🙂
This is my first 16-9 hdv project and I am really messed up.
I select all the stuff in the timeline ( after pasting it over or before ? ) then hit remove basic motion and distort?

    Kirk,

Go to your timeline that is in the correct codec and aspect ratio you want. Go to the first frame of your video, mark an IN and OUT for that first shot and do a match frame to the original HDV shot. Overwrite onto your existing shot and you should see that the new HDV shot on your timeline fits the frame exactly. Now copy this shot, then select all the rest of your shots that need to be fixed on the timeline, then right-click and select Paste Attributes, select Basic Motion and Distort, then click OK. This should get all your shots to display properly on the timeline. If you’ve done any funky pushes or moves on any of your shots that required you to mess in the any of the areas of the Motion tab, you will overwrite them when you paste attributes. So you might want to just copy attributes to blocks of shots upto and after the affected shots. You will have to go into those shots that you effected earlier and make your changes by hand.

    Hope this helps,

    Jamie

No my intention to insult you at all.
You need to remove the attributes when the clips are in the new sequence so the clips will get their original proportions.
If the new sequence setting match those of the footage, the footage will fit perfectly in the canvas without scaling or distortion. You won’t need to render.
    Cheers

You are in FC 6, so let FC make the sequence for you.
Open a new sequence (whatever the setting) and drop a clip from your Browser. FC will ask you if you want that sequence to match the setting of your footage. Hit YES.
Then Copy and Paste the footage from the old sequence and delete the first clip that you laid.

Thanks for the help. I now have my project in the correct setting.
    Now 2 new questions.

Exporting to Motion to redo my opening…what is the correct setting for the movie export? I export 5-7 short clips to use in a motion template. Will be using HD settings for the first time.

Exporting to DVD Studio pro to make their DVD. What is the right setting or movie format?

    Thanks again…

Really saved my ass too, on this music video I’m working on. – 41 clips synched in wrong sequence settings almost gave me a heart attack. I’m so glad it was this easy to fix 🙂

    Thanks!
