Has anyone seen this problem before?!

Whenever I try to edit anything to a DV tape from FCP on my Mac It always just records this same pink and green static pattern. (image attached)
I have used various tapes and firewire devices and get the same problem, so either it is the Mac, the software or me! Have just upgraded to FCP 6.0.5 and get the same problem.

I even get this pattern when I try to black a tape or put bars&tone to tape.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What video output setting are you using

Final Cut Pro -> Audio/Visual Settings

    what do you have for
    device control preset
what settings do you have when you go to the
    A/V devices tab

    what are your sequence settings?
and do they match the settings on the deck you are using?

Yeah, that is a clear indication that your footage does not match your video output settings.
