Recently, I’ve been having two edit to tape problems:

    (1) In a 720p59.94 10 Bit Uncomp sequence, the program drops frames on output – sometimes in different places, sometimes consistently in the same place – in either case, I never get to output the full 22-minute program.

My hardware is up to snuff to handle this data rate: a 12 TB RAID system connected via fiber optic. I’m outputting with a Kona 3. Outputting to Panasonic D5 and Sony HDCAM SR player/recorder decks.

    (2) On other outputs, I’ve noticed the program is one frame off. Instead of the two-pop being at 00:59:58:00, it happens at 00:59:58:01 – even though the sequence is setup correctly (as far as I know). This problem doesn’t happen all the time – so if I try to compensate for it by assembling one frame early, then the problem will often still occur.

Pointers of any kind would help. As well as Tylenol.

what’s the speed test come up with on your array? I’ve honestly never heard of that manufacturer.

Have you properly set up your VTR offset?

After running the AJA System test, the speed of the RAID in both directions is approximately 300 MB/s.

A private post house in West LA, we have:
    Three MacPros with Kona 3
One PowerMac G5 with Kona LH
12 TB Infortrend RAID via Fiber Optic – Atto Cards
6 TB Apple RAID via Fiber Optic – Atto Cards
    Sony SRW-5500
    Panasonic HD3700B

A couple things you can do about #1:

    1. Export a reference movie and reimport into FCP. Place into a new timeline and try an output. This helps with stubborn playouts.

    2. A simple Audio Mixdown works wonders.

I’ve been having the same exact problems using KONA LH and outputing to a Sony DigiBeta deck. Have you found an answer to your situation yet?
