I am working with FCP 5.1, BlackMagic Decklink, and editing to digi beta tape. Sequence is set to start at 58:50:00 and timecode on deck is set to 58:30:00 and both the FCP sequence and the digi beta deck are set to non drop frame. First frame of video in the sequence begins at 1:00:00:00 but the first frame of video on the recorded tape begins at 1:00:00:01. I have been able to fix this frame offest in the past by creating a new sequence and copy and pasting the edited sequence into it and also by blacking a new tape and starting from scratch. Today the only solution I found was to begin my sequence at 58:49:29 thus tricking Fincal Cut into recording the sequence with the proper timecode. I have asked a few people who have said it is simply an FCP bug and there is no one solution. But that just seems ludicrous. Has anyone experienced this issue and may be able to lend some insight?

    Thanks!

Sometimes I get one frame offset, but typically that only happens when I upconvert 720p to 1080p…or sometimes when I downconvert. It has happened once when I was just outputting to digibeta. But it is a simple fix…just have your start time different. No skin off your nose…now that you know the offset.

    Yeah, it should be fixed…

I have had this on HDCam outputs, not SD digi. Don’t bother changing anything with your timeline, just trim one frame off the in time in the edit to tape window.

Moving your sequence is not a good idea as you will have a problem anyway if you need to do an insert. Make the trim in the edit to tape window.

Communicating accurately with tape decks is number one among the many things Final Cut does not do well.

My Panasonic 1200A is off by 12 frames, straight out of the box. My solution was to create a new capture preset in the Audio/Video Settings menu. You can create customized presets with off-sets — but beware – a 1 frame offset does not always off-set by 1 frame (that would be too simple) for my 12 frame problem I had to create a 29 frame off-set – arrived at by trial and error. But now that it’s programmed in, the deck is frame accurate.

This is a VERY well known decklink bug. Just search decklink forums. After dealing with this problem for quite a while I caved in and bought an Aja. Everything works ok with Aja.

I get a non-consistent frame or two latency when laying down a sequence in the sheer codecs.
I have yet to figure out why.
