  • Edit to tape on AJHD 1200

Posted by Jim Watt on June 23, 2007 at 4:08 pm

I have a rental AJHD 1200 deck while our HD 150 is in for service. I’ve been using it for playback and capture and it works fine, but I tried “edit to tape” today and all the edit to tape selections are grayed out or don’t highlight when I try to drop my sequence to them.

I reset the deck to the factory settings and nothing changed.

Print to video is working, so as a last resort I can use that, but i’d rather not.

FCP^/Dual quad core machine & Kona 3 card.

    Any ideas?

    thx…jw

You cannot Edit to Tape using RS-422 control on that deck. You must control the deck via Firewire.

Also know that the deck is not frame accurate and you will need to offset your Edit to Tape point anywhere from 4 frames to 20 seconds.

When I mastered to the 1200, I had to test it and found that I had to offset by 9 frames.

man the 1400 makes this all easier.

I’m also getting breakup in the composite video out “2” which is the super connection and getting nothing from composite video out “1” & I set the menu item to composite from component.

Any suggestions? I’ll be very happy when i get my 150 back.

    thx…jw

There is no Composite Video 1, the only Composite output is the Super output. That output is SD only

If you’re feeding the deck via Firewire, the breakup is normal. It does not hold a clean signal when being fed Firewire, but your recording will be just fine.

I’m pretty sure this is a deck you will NOT be able to play back any video recorded on the 1200A. The recording system was changed on the 1200A and all machines forward so the 150 and 170 do not playback video recorded via all newer machines.

    Walter,

I recently bought the AJHD 1200a deck. I don’t have the firewire option and I am connecting using the rs-422. I am able to black the tape and get a time code but when I print to tape the time code is not running? What is the best method to tape from FCP? I produce :30 and :60 commercials for cable and broadcast.
