I’m working on a mac pro with FC Studio 2 installed. It has a AJA Kona capture card and it is hooked up to a DNW-A75 beta-sx deck. I can digitize footage from it, but when I try to edit to tape I get the error message

“The selected audio & video devices may not match
    – AJA Kona 525i29.97 10 bit (720×486)
    – Built-in Audio

Please verify that the audio and video outputs are externally routed to the intended device(s)”

Everything is patched correctly… is there something I am missing? Thanks.

Open up your Audio and Video settings in the FCP menu. Go to the last tab titled “A/V Devices” make sure that your audio output is set to AJA Kona. It sounds like you’re currently routing your audio through the built-in output, which is your computer.

Thanks Jeremy for responding. I changed the audio setting and I didn’t get the error message this time around, but when everything was said and done, no video or audio was recorded onto the beta sx. Any ideas?

And yes, the video did show up in the edit to tape preview and the deck was controlled by FCP, but nothing stuck onto the tape…

Are you monitoring the deck? It doesn’t really matter if you see video on the computer monitor, you need to see it coming from the deck. Doesn’t need to be fancy, just a tv, plug it into the deck Composite, like I said, you only need to see picture and hear sound coming from the deck during the operation.

No picture or sound is coming through the monitor connected to the deck…

How are the deck and Kona card connected? Make sure that you have the right video output settings selected in the view menu of FCP. Also make sure that your Kona card settings are set to the correct video formats. Its hard to troubleshoot something so vague.
