edit to tape HD looks low res
Trying to perform an insert edit of a previously output HD 29.97 timeline. New Kona 3 installed since this program was put on tape (previously had a Kona LH). Sequence is fully rendered all settings set to 1080i 29.97 (including the Aja control box), deck is set for 29.97.
Everything plays through and looks great through the machine and on the monitors until I initiate Edit to Tape. It performs the edit and the picture starts looking great but after about 30 or 40 frames looks somewhat blocky like it has been scaled up (jagged edges). During ETT the Kona control box settings are reading fine.

Looking at it a little closer I noticed that the timeline RT setting shows Playback Quality High is greyed out (Dynamic is checked). I have heard this could be a ram issue. Is that true? (Another sequence at 720p has Playback High available)

I once had this issue on an eight core mac pro. High quality was greyed out, which made for bad tape layoffs. we opened the tower and noticed it was setup with 10 gigs of ram. 4 2gb modules and 2 1gb modules. As soon as we pulled the 2 1gb modules, were able to select high quality and all was well.

Looking at the system, we have 4 2gb sticks. I assume they are still in pairs and would therefore have to pull 4gigs of ram. Is that right?

4 2gb should be fine. That is weird. Are they different manufacturers? Likewise, are they different speed ram? (I.E. one being 677 and the other 800)

Just checked – same speed, same manufacturer – ran TTPro and the memory test passes. We may try and place them in different slots.
