edit to tape
Posted by Bob Vick on September 28, 2006 at 7:37 pmI am still having issues with my Edit to tape. During normal operation, FCP sends the output to my JVC monitor. But when I launch the ETT function, I get a static look. Nothing has worked to correct it. I have repaired, trashed and updated my Kona software.
Now I am just going to reload FCP. SO should I trash the app or just reinstall over the exsiting version? Right Now I am at 5.0.4

September 28, 2006 at 9:12 pmOkay now I am really frustrated. I went back to 5.01, then to 5.0.4 reloaded any updates for that version. I have no idea what is causing this. When I leave the FCP App, bars are sent to the monitor as desired from Kona. I can watch the output of FCP as normal through the JVC monitor. Everything is as it should be until I enter the Edit to Tape window and then only when I click the Video Tab. And also, random timeline images pop into the window.
ANy suggestions?

September 28, 2006 at 9:19 pmAs for the images in the ETT window. The first images (all move at a frame at a time, by thenselves) are from the timeline currently showing. If I close the ETT window, select another sequence the go back to ETT, It will now start in bars, go to black then the current timeline then to the last timeline. This repeats each time I close the ETT and click the tab for a different seq and then start the ETT.

September 28, 2006 at 9:23 pmSorry for the endless threads
Just opened Log and Capture It is doing the same thing. What do these two functions have in common?

September 28, 2006 at 10:31 pmIs it possible that my Kona LS card has faulted? Is there a way to test it?>

September 28, 2006 at 10:45 pmOkay for those following along with this drama/crisis…I finally decided to call AJA.. And let me add that I soooooo glad I went with them for my capture card. I was told they were very customer friendly and smart.
They are. A tech walked me thru a couple of areas in the Kona control panel. I was already thru it twice. But as soon as he said “let’s look at the input” I saw that it was on SDI and not Analog. I remember thinking that the look of the static
was llike I wasn’t getting the right signal. Man very long days of editing the last 3 days, I must have been a little punchy. So it was the input. Must have happened while I was trying to update FCP. I feel better
‘cept now I have a day of work to catch up on. Looks like Taco Bell and a late night.
cheers all

September 30, 2006 at 1:49 pmBob, I would have jumped in if I’d had a clue, but I’m way newer to Kona and even FCP than you are. I’ve had excellent help from AJA when needed. I’m right up the road with a Kona LHe system. My upgrade to 5.1.1 and now 5.1.2 have gone just fine, knock on wood. This give me some new effects, which seem to work, and the new scopes that update during playback. Very nice, too.
Final Cut Studio, FCP 5.2.1, After Effects 6.5 Pro, Quicktime 7, G5 Quad 2.5, Kona-LHe V3, 4.5GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7800-GT, G-RAID 2x1TB FW800.

October 2, 2006 at 6:51 pmHey Tom
When I realized what the problem was… I was rather bummed that I lost a day for that. But I agree that AJA tech is great!
Hey BTW I drive by your place on my way home all the time. I live nearby off of Sprinkle road.
I stopped by a couple years back looking for Xtra jobs. You guys have a nice place.
Ever need a fcp editor/producer for overload work give me a shout.
