I’m looking to get a 2 station edit suite up and running but would like to get some system design help. I’m interested in having 2 FCP systems that both use a server (X-serve or a HUGE server) to store video. I want the servers to store video mostly – not necessarily capture the video to begin with – although I wouldn’t mind if it had that capability.

Is there somewhere a person can look at drawings or documents to show how a system like this should be configured?

I would consider talking to someone like ProMax for this sort of project, unless you have a specialist locally. It will save you money in the long run (and most likely in the short run as well) to hire someone.

    Just my take.

    Hi there,
    Tom has a good idea.
There are a lot of options.
We have an Xserver for our 5 FCP stations. We set it up a couple years ago and haven’t used it as much as we thought we might.
Even with a Gigabit ethernet you can’t capture/master from the server. Plus servers don’t have a lot of HD space, so you’ll fill it up quickly.

    FWIW.
