Edit sequence into another sequence= losing renders
Posted by Brian Berdan on May 29, 2010 at 12:11 amIs this a dead horse I’m beating?
I often need to edit sections of one edit into another (using ‘insert sequence content’) and of course it loses all reference to the renders… of which there are many in a two hour feature film. Does anyone else suffer this indignity?Brian Berdan

May 29, 2010 at 8:17 amYes, and it is maddening. From the same sequence to the same sequence…fine. From one sequence to another, gone. Why? Who knows… FCP isn’t the best with media management and render management. But I figure you guessed that.

May 29, 2010 at 9:41 amDoes it happen if you do a simple copy>paste from one sequence to another? I am sure I have done that before without losing renders.

June 1, 2010 at 6:43 pmHeck, it even loses renders when you copy and paste within the same sequence!
I sure hope Apple hires back the programmers they let go- this program is not done.I can’t be rendering all the time (re-render all smoothcams every day)
I would love to be able to match frame to the project/bin a clip came from, since I have to split a feature film up into multiple projects.
I wold love to see a useful editable list of markers or all types.oh well.

Well, that isn’t normal. Something’s up. Might want to trash preferences and restart.

They weren’t programmers, they were outside consultants.

That would be nice. But across projects, that’s a toughie. Apple would REALLY have to make improvements in media management. And given their record…outlook not good.

June 1, 2010 at 9:30 pmHey Shane,
Thanks… I’m just feeling a little pissy this morning.
I’ll try trashing preferences… after it finishes rendering!Brian Berdan

June 1, 2010 at 9:47 pmI’d feel pissy too if I had to render all the time. That’s a serious buzzkill.

June 4, 2010 at 9:52 pmOK, somethings wrong Brian. I just copied and pasted a sequence into another one and DIDN’T lose the renders. And I copied into another sequence in another project and didn’t lose the renders. So, something is wrong on your end.
You trash preferences lately?
Get your assistant on it.

June 4, 2010 at 9:58 pmYeah, funny you should mention it… today cutting and pasting is working fine. Although this morning I rendered all the smoothcams (again) and a couple minutes later they were all gone again. Gremlins.
