FCP 7, OS 10.7.3, Macbook Pro.

In trying to replace a clip on the timeline, I get “this edit requires all target items to be linked” message. The new clip and target clip come from source files are identical, except the target clip is 1280X1080 and the new clip is 1920X1080.

The target clip IS linked. according to the Modify menu. And both audio and video tracks are highlighted when I click on either one.

The play head has been placed at the beginning of the clip in the middle of a dissolve.

There are four different In and Out points (2 audio and 2 video) on the existing clip on the timeline.

Is the split edit the problem? Do I somehow need to match the split edit in and out points on the new clip?

This one has me stumped. Any input much appreciated.

I believe it means that you have to have the track assignments on for both video and audio to do this.

The dissolve is your problem. Cut or delete it, then try again.

Gang Viewer and Canvas, stride down the timeline past the dissolve and the split, then replace.
