edit mxf or mp4
I have been having problems with my Premiere Pro CS3 running low on system memory on my Vista 32bit system.
We are in the process of upgrading to CS5 on a 64 bit system, but in the meantime I have to do a good size project. I am worried I will run into RAM problems again (premiere crashing and freezing). Up to this point, I have been importing native mp4 files from the EX-1 into the NLE.my question is: Would rewrapping the mp4 into mxf be more stable and easier for my system to work with?
What do all of you do for your NLE’s? -

I’m not sure how Premiere CS3 accesses memory but having to use a GOP based codec is likely going to be more memory intensive that I frame based codec. Based on that, MXF GOP may not buy you much but maybe there are other factors. Of course transoding to I Frame codec is going to use up a lot more hard drive space but it would be easier on the system resources.

Is Quicktime Animation overkill? Is Quicktime Photo JPEG too much of a quality compromise? What I Frame codec do you use?

8 bit uncompressed 4:2:2 if that’s available to you.
Animation isn’t very efficient. Photo JPEG can work but personally I’d gravitate towards a modern video codec.
