    Hi,

I would to edit some videos from YouTube in Vegas.
I have converted the flv files to mpgs using an online converter, but when I try to play these mpgs in Vegas I hear no sound.

Is there any format that I should be converting the flv files to, instead of mpgs? or any other advice? These mpg files play in VLC media player on my computer and they play fine.

    Thanks for any advice.

I would convert them to DV AVI files. These can be re-rendered several times with no visible loss in quality. MPEG will start to loose quality quickly when re-rendered and YouTube doesn’t start with much quality to begin with. If you do use MPEG just render the audio as a WAVE file but DV AVI will eliminate the need.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. This is actually for my son. He asks if he can do this DV avi conversion directly into Vegas, or does he need another program to do it, and, if so, do you have any recommendations for one?

    Thank you again.

I use Replay AV to grab them and Moyea to convert them to AVI or whatever I want as there’s more choices. One thing though, watch your frame size. They’re 320 x 240 from You Tube so don’t go trying to enlarge them to 720 x 480. You’ll be sorry! ha ha ha

I did a whole bunch fo children’s stuff for my grandkids and tried to put them on a DVD. Most were not too bad but the quality wasn’t really there.

I got a free FLV player in my computer anyway so I just double click them and they play. No need to convert them.

OK, I see what you are trying to do now. Here is what my son uses to get YouTube videos onto his Zune portable player. I works for Vegas too: https://keepvid.com/

You copy the URL of the YouTube video you want onto the Windows clipboard and then paste it into the KeepVid URL field. Then press the Download button. On the next screen it will give you a link for both FLV and MP4. Select MP4 and these videos will be editable in Vegas.
