These are work-arounds rather than solutions, but here are a couple ways to address the issue:

Edit clip on its own: Temporarily disable the upper tracks in the timeline, edit the target clip as desired, and re-enable the upper tracks.

Edit clip in context with other tracks: Temporarily move the target clip to the highest track and reduce its opacity. Edit as desired, move the clip back to its original track, and reset opacity.

Ya, i’ve done those workarounds, just figured i was adding extra steps and missing some shortcut. Apparently not.

Select clip in timeline
Go to Effect Controls and highlight the word Motion (hit transform icon)
A bounding box will appear in the Program Monitor.

Thanks Ann…but what is the “Transform Icon?” And when you say “Effects Controls”, do you mean the little gray or yellow box in the upper left corner of the clip on the timeline?

Look for the Effect Controls window and hit the word Motion.
The icon left of the word Motion is called the transform icon.

Thanks. That was what i figured. Anyway, i right click on the little box, get the drop down menu, click on “Motion” (or anything), see the next drop down menu and even if i click on one of those nothing happens.

Like I said before Highlight the word Motion. Forget about the dropdown menu.
A yellow bounding box will appear in the PM.
Now you can move the clip, scale it or rotate it.
