    Hi All,

i just made a job with a friend, him working on Edius/Liquid, and i on FCP.

He could do an incredible fast edit by cutting the clip eitther from or to the playhead, moving
the following clips to close the gap instantly.

So, he has say 3 clips..
    starts playing back..
    first is fine..
as the playhead moves he decides to cut from the inpoint of the second clip
to the playhead position, and closing the gap (ripple-like)
Voila, one hit on hte keyboard!

all i could come up with is to constantly select the clip i’m playing presing x,
and then set either I or O depending on if i wanted to delete the first or the last part
of the clip and hit delete.

but i’d like to have just one shortcut!

    is that possible in FCP?
    i couldn’t find it..

This might not be the MOST efficient way on FCP but this could be a little faster if I have understood what you trying to do.

    1) Hit CTRL+V to create an edit at the playhead.
    2) Click the section you want to lose and SHIFT+BACKSPACE to ripple delete

Anyone else got a faster way?

There are many things you can do in other NLE’s that cannot be done in FCP … and vice versa
The one you’ve identified would go a long way towards making FCP a better edit system for fast turn stuff, but that isn’t the primary target for this NLE (unlike Edius which sells very strongly in the fast turn market aka News).

Still, if you have QuickKeys or VideoMacro or a similar utility then you can set up the following macro that could be triggered from a single keypress in order to create the same functions:

    To trim the tail:
press “control v” to make a cut at the playhead, then press “x” to mark the tail of the clip, then press “shift delete” to ripple delete the marked selection

    To trim the head
press “control v” to make a cut at the playhead, then press the “back arrow” to jog the playhead back by one frame, then press “x” to mark the tail of the clip, then press “shift delete” to ripple delete

See how it works for you.
    Cheers
