Edit in Adobe Audition = Screwed?
When you right-click on an audio clip and select “Edit in Adobe Audition”, a copy of that audio clip is created and brought into Audition. You then edit the clip and save. When done, the new file replaces the original file in the timeline.
And then you’re screwed.
You can’t change your edit (say, slip a frame or two), because you’re clip has been saved at the specific length of the edited clip on the timeline.
You can’t open the audio clip in Audition a second time, because now it is an Adobe Dynamic Link file, and the “Edit in Adobe Audition” menu item is grayed out.
You can’t even easily relink to the original audio file, if I’m not mistaken. You’d have to manually recreate the edit by dragging the original clip back in from the Project Panel.
Am I wrong about all this? I hope so…

It makes sense to me, since you are saving over the original. Same thing happens if you choose to edit a still in Photoshop. Once you are done with your clip in audition, click “Save as” instead and rename you file to something else, then reimport. I got caught a couple of times to, but I learned quicky 😉

I don’t generally do that kind of work until I am done editing the video, but I suppose you could merely make a copy of the audio, put it on a different track, and replace the copy instead of the original. Mute the track that has the original so it does not get in the way.
