Please pardon my ignorance, I am sure this question was asked before. I am an event videographer, using Sony Z7U HDV.

I am planning to purchase a new Nikon D7000 (I have access to the bunch of lenses).

    According to their website the Nikon shoots 1,920 × 1,080 (24p); / 1,280 × 720 (24p); / 1,280 × 720 (30p); 30 fps

    Sony Z7U has HDV: 1080/60i, 1080/24p, 1080/30p.

    1. How do I mix 2 footages together?
    2. What frame size / rate should I set on each camera?
    3. When I mix – what should I set for the output to the DVD?

    Thanks!

HDV is normally the lowest common denominator – however if the Nikon does not shoot 1080/60i then you have to find somewhere for the two formats to meet. If you edit in 720p, your Nikon footage can be native, but then you are making the HDV progressive.

The ultimate proof is in the pudding – do some tests with the different Nikon settings, since HDV is only one setting, and output all to DVD and see what looks best, which is fairly subjective.

You should check out the HDSLR forum.

PS – If editing in CS4, be prepared for sluggish playback of the Nikon material.
