i normally use the 720×480 DV/DVCpro ntsc project video render settings to cut together after effects segments that are in the animation codec and then export the edited segs out as animation codec. works fine. i don’t need to see external video to a device and i just use firewire drives. i’m now having to edit together segments from afx that are 1450×483 sqr. pixel for video projection. i set up the project to those dimensions and drop the 1450 movies on the time line and everything looks fine in the program window until i render the work area, then the 1450 wide movies get squeezed to what looks like dv 720 width inside the 1450 screen. (premier is importing/interpreting the footage/pixel size correctly.) if i use animation codec for the project video render setting it works fine, doesn’t get squeezed and fits the 1450 width correctly but is too fat a datarate to playback without occasional lags while editing on a macintel quad. what project vid render codec should i use for non-standard movie sizes like this. is there a way to get the DV codec to not squeeze the width to DV size?

Pretty sure the DV codec insists on a specific screen size. You might try Motion-Jpeg instead of Animation – that might play back better.
