maybe im missing something simple… but the only way i can find to do an effect similar to the stroke layer effect in photoshop is following arrons stoke tutorial.. and using a duplicated layer with a matte choker.

is there a more simple way of doing it?

    thanks, Levon

For text, Layer>Create Outlines, then you get masks for your letters on a new layer.

For layers with an alpha punched out, like a tree-shaped psd, Layer>Auto-Trace (tolerance and threshold of 1 makes nice tight masks) makes masks.

Then use Render>Stroke, Render>Vegas, or my fav Render>AudioWaveform (on mask, nice neon effect). There’s also Roughen Edges>Color, but a bit different look… And Radial shadow (if you center the Light Source). But Stroke and Audio Waveform (without tying to an Audio layer) are the most like photoshop.

The text tool palette has fill and stroke just like illustrator and photoshop. want outlined text just turn off fill and turn on stroke.
