Hi everyone, I am new to video and FCP so bear with me here.

I understand that FCP versions above 6.0.1 have AVCHD support which allows me to import video from my Sony SR11. My version of FCP is 6.0.5 but I do not see any AVCHD options in the Easy Setup dialog. If anyone could help me get FCP to see my SR11 I’d be eternally grateful!

    Using…
    MacBook Pro 2.16 – 2GB ram
    OSX 10.5.6
    Final Cut Studio 2 – FCP6.0.5
    Sony HDR-SR11

    Thanks

Well, despite the ‘can’t find device’ warning I get from not being able to choose the correct ‘Use’ in the Easy Setup dialog, I find that I’m able to successfully Log & Transfer from the AVCHD SR11 to my HD. I wonder why the AVCHD options don’t show up though?

There are no AVCHD presets because FCP doesn’t actually edit AVCHD. It converts the media to ProRes on ingest.

    All the best,

Thanks Tom, that certainly makes sense!

So that I would have a preset for my setup, I created a custom Capture Preset with the following settings….

    Frame Size: 1920×1080
    Aspect Ratio: HDTV 1080i (16:9)
Quicktime Video Settings – Digitizer: None
Quicktime Audio Settings – Device: None

Note: The preset Summary warns there is no video or audio devices set.

The Sequencer Preset I am using is: Apple Pro Res 422 1920×1080 60i 48kHz

Would you say this is correct for the Sony HDR-SR11? Again, appreciate the patience!

    Thanks

I have a Sony Handycam that shoots AVCHD and I can’t even figure out how to import the files into the hard drive much less the Final Cut Pro 6 program. Can you tell me what you are doing?
