This isn’t specific to Premiere really, but to the whole creative suite.

I often work on a lot of different projects simultaneously.

Currently, when you tell Premiere (or any program in the suite) to open or import a file, it will default to the last accessed location on the drive.

As a result, if I’m working on Project Y, it will not open the folder where all the media for Project Y is stored, but the last accessed folder. Why can’t the program just recognize that you’re now working on project X and default to that folder rather than just going to the last accessed folder?!

It’s a small thing, but when you’re working on a lot of projects, constantly redirecting ends up sucking up a lot of time. Is there a script or plug-in that fixes this?

On the Mac, I highly recommend Default Folder X [link]. It supplements standard file dialogs with some cool hotkeys, including globally recently accessed folders.

On Windows, I make heavy use of the Favorites feature, which appears in the sidebar of Explorer windows and file dialogs. It includes a “Recent Places” item which are shortcuts to recently accessed folders.

I also love Directory Opus [link] as an Explorer replacement — I’ll use that pretty often, then drag and drop files into the Adobe apps I’m using. Sometimes I work out of Bridge, too.

I haven’t found an app like Default Folder X yet that I love for Windows, but there are a couple options that might work for you like Flash Folders and Buzz Folders.

Thanks, Walter! I’ve never used any of those apps but they sound like they’ll at least ease the burden.

I’m on a PC. I’ll check some of these out. Thanks!

Adobe Bridge also has a favorites panel. And it can ‘place’ selected images with one click into Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator which is cool. Premiere Pro Cc latest update allows drag/drop from Bridge to any folder in the project panel.
