Earthquake effect
Posted by Visionary Films on June 5, 2006 at 3:52 amHello!
I’m needing some urgent help here to complete a music video. okay…i have 6.5 A.E. Standard, i’ve tried for like 4 hours to get this rather simple effects, i read over the instructions and its still not working, 6.5 doesn’t have wiggler and i’ve tried everything else from the lil print out using expressions and the slider control, still doesn’t work.
is there a filter plug in i can use or can some one guide me through this 4 secons effect i have in my music video.

June 5, 2006 at 4:21 amThe 6.5 version should have the wiggler (I don’t think it was under effects in 6.5, maybe animation ? … I forgot already !) Although, I’m not just what actual version you have.
As an alternative, take a look at Random expressions. Here’s a tutorial:

June 5, 2006 at 4:30 amNo need to put your title in ALL CAPS, you could of just wrote ” Earthquake Effect (Urgent)” or something like that.
Okay, your solution is in the COW Archives. It’s amazing to see how much people asked that question before. Of course, I could go look by myself and check that out, bring you the best solutions and you’d have a beautiful answer. But it’s already there in the Archives, so go look 🙂
If I’d were you, I’d simply scale my video footage a bit, and if your footage is less than 10 secs, I’d animate the position, and make the all keyframes only 2 frames apart. Example: Place the position, go 2 frames further, place a new position, 2 frames further…new position…so on…so forth… And then check the Motion Blur (the check and the button, of course). Pretty easy, really.

Just DL it from the bottom of the page.
I’ve never used AE standard editions, so I hope it works with them!
Good luck!

USING ALL CAPS IS CALLED “SHOUTING” IN INTERNET PARLANCE. WE DO NOT WANT IT USED IN OUR SUBJECT LINES, AS IT MAKES THE FORUMS LOOK LIKE CRAP WHEN IT’S DONE.
WHEN PEOPLE USE IT, WE USUALLY CHANGE IT BACK TO UPPER- AND LOWER-CASE (AS I JUST HAD TO DO IN THE 7 POSTS IN THIS THREAD). BUT IF PEOPLE REPEATEDLY DO IT, WE THROW THEIR ACCOUNTS INTO MODERATION AND IF THAT DOESN’T STOP THEM, WE TURN THEM OFF.

June 5, 2006 at 10:40 amRON ARE YOU YELLING…WHY IS EVERYONE YELLING…CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG (SINGING KUMBAYA MY LORD) hehehehehe
With an earthquake effect, I would want to animate as Justin said using position and lots of motion blur. That said, this wouldn’t be enough for my needs. I would want it to look like the camera was losing sync and basically having a hard time dealing with the earthquake. I would use motion tiles to get the camera image to roll. I would also cut in a frame here and there with some venetian blinds on, or a tight grey grid (horizontal lines only) set to add on some frames, and possibly multiply on other. If you would have had the pro version, then I would have also used the fractal noise along with a displacment map to create a haze to the image as it moved.
Hope these ideas help

June 5, 2006 at 10:47 amNo, I am not yelling, Mark, I am simply pre-caffeinated. ;o)
Have a great and productive day there in Montreal, Mark.
I had to get up at 3am and start my day as I am back working on the next issue of Creative Cow Magazine. It’s no rest for the wicked…

June 5, 2006 at 11:41 amI searched for a similar effect (the wiggler-effect in Requiem for a Dream when the two main characters are in jail) and what I found was a really good Plug-In for AE.
Its part of the Sapphire Plugins and it’s called Shake.
Try it here: https://www.genarts.com/sapphire-ae.html
It makes really good shaking effects, also with great motion blur.

June 5, 2006 at 1:20 pmHi, I think there isn’t such a plug in for this king of effect, since it’s so simple to do…
I’ve created a 4 second comp, send me you e-mail so I can send it to you.
