    Hi All,

I’ve got a project coming up where I’ll be using the files from a Cannon EOS 5D Mark II (1080p30). I’ve been told that there were problems with the files the camera creates when used in Final Cut Studio 2, but the problems were resolved in the latest Studio update. I’ve got a ton of invoices out, but no one is paying so I’m so I’m still using Studio 2 (FCP 6.0.6, Motion 3.0.2, etc). Has anyone here used these files or know of a place that I should go to get the low down? Any info or links you can throw my way would be greatly appreciated!

Below is the only link I could find on these threads to this camera:

I also checked the FAQ before I posted. Thanks!

Convert the footage to ProRes before you edit it.

Well that was a lot more simple than I thought it would be! Thanks!

ProRes and 29.97, it’s straight 30P out of the camera.

Winston, I did a search on ‘Canon 5D’ and found 149 results. This camera workflow has been covered ad nauseum and the answer that Shane gave is the simple correct one.

I suggest you search further as the frame rate and audio sample rate issues need to be understood as well.

You can actually drop the native files straight into a 1080p 30fps ProRes sequence. They will have to be rendered though but it is a quick way of seeing what they look like.

I came across something strange the other day.
It seems FCP5 will allow me to edit the 5D footage if I make a multiclip sequence out of the footage and do my edit in that….cross-fades and all!

I’ve been able to render it out and it seems fine.

saved me tons of time and drive space. made the client happy.

Just letting it be known and checking with the community.
    Am I missing something here?

(maybe it’s dropping a few frames, but I haven’t noticed it)

    Any thoughts?
