For our project we have around 100 lower-third titles that need to be rendered. Thats 100 different names. To speed things up we have implemented a version of Dan Ebberts script for loading text into text layers. The script takes a pre-created generic comp, copies it and replaces the text in pre-determined text layers with text from a .txt file, then sends it to the render queue.

Because of this direction were taking, the animations that the text goes through needs to be completely dynamic due to various name lengths and job titles.

    ***Here’s the problem***

Our text animations are required to have a revealing quality to them, much like the way typing on a computer looks. Except instead of a vertical line, we need a set of 7 images to cycle randomly.

Linked is the ae file and images in an illustrator file. Also the script used is provided.

What we have done so far, is created our text layer and added an animator with character offset and character value properties. Adjusting the start scrubber under range selector we are able to get the revealing quality we want except the character range is unicode. We want the ability to specify this character range, or better yet input our own images.

*Keep in mind this all needs to be done dynamically since we are just throwing words into a .txt and running the script to replace them. Length of these words will vary so keyframing a small looping animation will not work.

    Thanks!
