Seems Dynamic RAM is glitchy! I’ve got a pretty decent computer, 24gb RAM, Quadro 4000, Win 7/64. Running a few seconds of RAM preview (HD, but preview at a quarter) takes forever, and STILL the zooms are not smooth on playback. Argh. Tried many settings on dynamic ram, doesn’t seem to make much difference. If it’s running in RAM, why does it have to “pre-render” (doesn’t that mean that there’s temp vid files with the section rendered? Should run with normal memory, like any video?) I love Vegas for it’s stereoscopic friendliness, but it’s just horrible to work with.
I would welcome suggestions on getting some smooth playback… thanks.

[ron labbe] “Running a few seconds of RAM preview (HD, but preview at a quarter) takes forever, and STILL the zooms are not smooth on playback.”

You have the “Pro” card that gets the support from nVidia, you should really be good-to-go. I don’t have the QUADRO and I get awfully good/responsive RAM Builds, even up to BEST. You would appear to be having a choke point. Well, what are your Project Settings and your Media?

What settings do you have your Build RAM set at? The default will be something very low? Do you have GPU acceleration set to ON?

Again, there is something choking Vegas.

    Cheers

I’ve seen this problem myself and I also have a Quadro 4000 card and I believe it’s a bug. It should work exactly as you expected. Once you use RAM preview it should playback at full frame rate but sometimes it doesn’t. I haven’t zeroed in on what conditions cause this but if you have a repeatable test case I would send the details to Sony.

Guess I’ll try even more settings… will try putting cache on RAID (program) drive. With every Sony update I hope for a smooth operation, this latest one (640) didn’t help. (At this point it’s better to just render a video file and check that!)

I’ve been having the same problems with smooth playback. ever since I went with SVP11. earlier versions played fine. even xdcam pauses every few seconds on playback. I hoped SVP12 would be the fix, but it’s the same. (yes,I uninstalled 11) So after much frustration I recently upgraded power supply and card from ATI Radeon to the new NVidia GTX770 and it still stutters on playback.
I’ve tried every different setting I can think of. GPU accl. off and on.
Can anybody suggest the best settings in video preferences? Dynamic Ram preview etc. and any other suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

    System is:
    Win 7 64, Intel i7CPU 906 @3.20GHz, 20GB ram. Nvidia Geforce GTX 770

    Thanks,
