At work I make catalogue for our in house systems. The catalogues are upto 100 pages with graphics and images with captions (their item number eg. PETCAT-001.pdf)

Currently, I use InDesign CS3 and I lay out each page with image blocks, text blocks, etc. If I ever have to delete an Item from a page it means I have to move all the following items back. This is very time consuming.

Surely, there must be a kind of automated way of making catalogues in this manner that are based on equations and rules? I vaguely remember xls files being used in catalogues to reference information. But does this also apply to images?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.
