  • Dynamic link from Premiere to AE CS6 causes

Posted by Michaelle Mcgaraghan on November 14, 2012 at 12:15 am

    Hi everyone,

I am working in a project where all the clips are keyed. I find it easier to pull the key in AE so I’ve been sending my entire timeline over to AE from Premiere using dynamic link. I am finding however that about 25% of my shots come back with glitches where one frame appears “torn”. This appears before and after I render in Premiere. They are highly noticeable in my edit and when I export the movie. To workaround this, I have had to render each problem clip out individually from AE and recut them into premiere. My question if has anyone seen this behavior with dynamic link and what have you done to fix/workaround it? Check out the image below:

    thanks

I have never seen this with DL.

How about lots of details on system, codecs used, software versions, etc.

    Hi Tom, thanks for responding.

Here are my system specs: Mac Pro 2×3 ghz Quad-Core intel, 8GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB, OS 10.7.5, Premiere 6.0, AE 11.0.0.378. Graid storage connected via eSATA

Codec is prores 442 (which is what the clips were shot in) 1920×1080 @ 29.97fps. Attached are my sequence settings as well. FYI on the last timeline I finalized, I uped the Video previews resolution to ProRes HQ and still had this rendering problem. Only replacing the clips solved the issue.

    Thanks,
    Michaelle

I had this problem as well on a specific project a while ago using Keylight in a dynamically linked AE.
I wonder what would happen if you switched to CPU rendering rather that GPU? Just a thought.

    Good thought Bob.

Also make sure your graphics card drivers (Card and CUDA) are up to date.

Are you using keylight? I have had a similar problem that continues to happen when I use keylight on P2 media. The best solution I’ve come across is to un-click one of the tick boxes in the keylight effect controls… Any of them. Refer to this video… https://vimeo.com/52918281

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Calvin,

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it out tonight and report back my results. It does appear to be directly related to key light.

In answer to Bob’s solution, I did switch to CPU and re-rendered everything in Premiere but still had the issue.

    Thanks again everyone!

Just had this problem again yesterday. I duplicated the keylight effect in the effect window, disabled the first one which resolved the issue (for now, anyway). It’s kind of a headache to constantly check renders but dynamic linking is still worth the trouble.

Calvin: So I tried your workaround of turning off stuff on Keylight in AE, and that worked in AE but I couldn’t get the link to refresh in Premiere

Bob: I also duped the filter and turned off the old one which again helped in AE but didn’t update in Premiere

Finally i just rendered out each clip separately. How did you guys get Premiere to recognize the changes you made with keylight in AE?

    thanks
