dye imperfection on DVD-RW, how to retrieve data?
I have a client who wants to pull info off of a finalized DVD-RW from a Sony Handycam DVD101. The disc mounts in both OS X and Windows, but when I try to copy the data in either OS, it gets about 75% the way through and then gets an I/O or cyclical redundancy error. Looking at the burn surface of the disc, it looks like it has a dye imperfection at the outer edge about the size of a fingerprint. The client says it plays okay on the Handycam so I’ll try outputting the video and burn to a DVD burner, but I’d like to try and retrieve the digital data directly from the disc so it’s not going through another generation of re-encoding. Does anyone have any suggestions?
