    Hello,

Can someone please explain to me the best approach to setting the camera so that timecode breaks are unlikely to happen.

If I want to set the tape at 01:00:00, do I need to be in preset and then after setting the hour move back into regen so that the camera is more likely to pick up Timecode? I could really benefit from a step by step description. Thanks in advance for your help.

Lastly, after reading some of the past posts & threads – I know that it is useful to re-wind the footage a few frames after each shot — should this be done even if you dont turn the camera off, or to VCR mode, and if the camera doesnt do its little shut-down sound after being on for a long time???

Also does anyone know anything about the following product that i am going to rent for underwater shooting in a residential pool (max 6ft deep) with the DVX100B? It’s called a MiniDV splash bag and I am looking to rent it from Air Sea Land Productions (out of NYC):

This housing is made from 2mm thick natural latex and is sealed using a heavy-duty watertight zip. The front and rear ports are fixed to an internal shoe. The camera is mounted onto an adjustable quick release plate on this shoe. This allows the camera to be positioned within the housing depending on the lens used.

Designed to fit most Sony, Canon, JVC and Panasonic Mini DV camcorders

The housing can be either hand held or mounted on a tripod. Access to the “stand by” switch and the “tape run” button is achieved using the fingerstall in the body of the housing, and the zoom rocker switch can be operated through the wall of the housing. When the zip is fully closed the unit can be submerged to a maximum depth of 3 meters.

    Filmstudent:

I don’t have anything to sell so here goes.

Preset is fine if you are shoooting throughout the day on the same tape. There is no need to back up a few seconds after each scene. That only takes time and adds wear to the tape stock and your heads.

Now, if you have to change batteries while shooting with preset! Then you have to go in and select regen. Regen will pick up the last TC and conntinue on.

Also, if your putting in a tape (or continuing)from day before say, and you want continuious TC on that tape. Then regen is applicable there too. To do this rewind tape a few seconds so you know you’re near end and see TC moving, stop, then use end search to find exact end, then put camera into Regen, and she will pick up it up from there. That keeps TC breaks to a minimum.

    Good Luck
