I’ll try to keep this concise: I’m buying a camcorder to film a whitewater documentary. The 100a is my ideal piece of equipment, but I can’t afford it. So I’m looking at the dvx100, the dvc80, and sony’s vx2100 (is it sacreligious to even mention that camera on here?). For my puproses, I will probably be shooting in standard, interlaced video in order to maintain sharp auto-focus on the swift-moving boats. So I could get by with the dvc80, though I’d like to have 24p on-hand. Problem: in reviews the 100 is said to have high-contrast artifacting and blown-out highlights on occaision. This could be a problem on a bright-lit river with frothy whitewater. Can anyone tell me if the interlaced video on the 100 is indeed superior to the vx2100 and how it compares to the 80. I don’t know if the dvc80 was taken from the 100 or the 100a, but a friend raves about interlaced video on the 80. So if it is a 24p-less clone of the 100, that would give me confidence. But I want to be sure I’m getting a camera that will handle high contrast days on the river. Any recommendations? Sorry this was not so concise after all.

The 80 is not bad but IMHO 24p is worth making sacrifices for and the DVX100 is the only cam of those 3 that has it. You should be able to easily find a used DVX100(not a or b just 100) for the price of a new 80. That would be my suggestion.

Thanks for the input. It’s good advice, and helpful.

You can buy various types of lens filters to balance out the sunlight changes and reflections of the water.

I have a clean and perfect condition DVX100 I’m selling that will fit your needs. I have a listing in the classified section of the Cow, contact me at jherring@yogifish.com if interested.
