DVDxDV converted files from MPEG2 – Media perfomance warning – files not optimized for FCP?
I downloaded the DVDxDVpro trial version before purchasing. After converting MPEG2 files with DVDxDV I get a WARNING message during import to FCP. “Media Performance Warning – The following media files are not optimized for final cut pro. IT is highly recommended that either recapture the media or use the media manager to create new copies of the files to improve their performance for multi-stream playback.” Under is a list of file or files I imported. I hit the blue OK button and the warning goes away and the import is completed. After this it seems I’m able to use the media with out any obvious problem. Does anyone know about this? Do I just ignore the warning and edit away or am I doomed to some horrible fate down the line. Is it only with the trial version? (I doubt that) Am I doing something wrong – DVDxDV preferences or FCP preferences or both? Is this about the multi track audio preference in DVDxDV? I

Got the exact same message with AVI file. A fellow editor gave me files on disc edited on Pinnacle Studio. They were DV/DVCPro wrapped in AVI (as opposed to MOV). Despite the warning the files worked fine.

Might be worth exporting the movie out as a self-contained movie file (not using QuickTime conversion) and re-importing it back in.
You get two bonuses with that…no more media performance warning, and no rendering, because you will have made it a FCP-friendly QT movie.

Debe, the odd thing is, in my case, I didn’t need to render the AVI. Not even a dark green bar over the clip. The AVI worked as if it were a proper MOV file.

I guess you don’t need to worry about it, then…
However, I’m a complete worrier, and I would export it out anyway. I’ve had MPEG1 files that started out “playing back fine”, but ended up corrupting themselves and my project file. At 2 in the morning, the day of my deadline….
Some things FCP only pretends to like in the beginning. MPEG1 and JPEGs are the two I’ve had the most trouble with over the years.
