DV/DVCPRO to Avid
Hi,
I’ve been reading a lot about issues with sending footage from FCP in DVCPRO HD and the codecs needed at an Avid station, but I haven’t seen anything pertaining to just standard DV/DVCPRO – NTSC, which is what I need to do.
I need to grab my capture files and deliver them to another production company where they will edit in Avid. I’m in the middle of exporting them out as Avid Meridien Compressed, the Uncompressed was too large. This delivery is being done via DVDs.
Anyway, could I, can I, just dragged the files over from the capture folder as DV/DVDPRO – NTSC, Integer (Little Endian), Timecode…..OR….would they have had issues reading the files??

I don’t know Avid, but whenever I exchange files with an Avid suite in-house, I do as you’ve done – export using an Avid.

The Avid should be able to import your DV/DVCPRO files. The DV/DVCPRO codec is built into Quicktime, unlike the DVCPRO-HD codec, which is only available when FCP is installed.
Why are you using DVD’s for this? Seems like a big pain and very slow… You can get Firewire/USB disks or even large capacity flash (thumb) drives inexpensively these days.

Ok, well that sounds good, sending them as they are. I agree about the DVD’s, but I’m uncertain I’ll get back my “thumb drive”. I have a 16 gig which would work well, but.
