DVD’s only hold 5 gb? What if your project is longer?

I was tied up w other matters and not able to work on my project since I was last here. I now have some time and so have started working on my project again. Btw – my project is finished and I’ve burned it to blu-ray and also posted it on the internet. Here is a link where you can see several previews. One of the previews gives you 10 -15 minutes or so:

However, I’m sending it around and some places only accept dvd.

So – if I get the dual layer dvd’s – and my project does not exceed 8.5 gb- am I correct to assume I don’t need to do all of the bit-rate stuff?

I.e. – it seems much simpler to just get the dual layer dvd’s. Is this advisable or should I follow the instructions as regards the bit rates?
