I encoded and burned two DVDs for a museum which operates two theaters. Same show, same commercial DVD players.

They worked fine for six months. Now, both DVDs pause for a moment at the same spot, then continue. Any theories?

Is this a DVD-R or a manufactured DVD?

These are DVD-Rs that I burned on a Sony DRU-540A.

Sounds like some kind of strange wear and tear. Perhaps the environment they are in?

DVD-R discs do have a finite life expectancy under severe usage/continuous playback situations. I have heard of DVD-R discs going bad in six months. That said, I have a sales presentation playing in my reception area 24/7, which has been playing for over 2 years continously.

You might try a more robust DVD-R media such as the MAM archival quality discs. It could also be that the laser diode in the player is getting weak.

What brand of discs are you using? Also, are you familiar with media codes? If not, click on the link in my signature and it should take you to my DVD article.
