    Sorry about that Mike.
Yes, there should be 3 more zeros at the end of of each set of numbers.

I don’t know where you live but I can usually find Verbatim at the local big box stores (Future Shop, Best But, Staples).
Wait for the sales and then stock up on them.
I have to mail order Taiyo-Yudens (I get mine through Tiger Direct in 300 pack spindles) as no one carries them locally but I’m sure there are other reliable places to get smaller quantities.

Thanks Mike. I’ll look for that media at the box stores. I just went and rendered the project reducing the numbers with the zeros. It rendered the first pass and then about a 1/4 of the way into the second pass the program stopped working. I’ll try again. Aggravating or is frustration a better word?

“…about a 1/4 of the way into the second pass the program stopped working”

Dirt can be a real render killer as it will cause everything to heat up to the point that it stops working.
If it’s been a while, buy a can of compressed air, take the sides of the case off and blow those dust bunnies to kingdom come 🙂
If you need it, Core Temp is a useful and free utility for monitoring your CPU temperature.

Yes, it probably needs it. I have another problem with this part of the guidelines:

After this is done, it’s time to make the buttons go to the specific scenes.
Double-click “2: Christmas Play 2008” in the tree menu on the left side.
    Switch to the “Timeline” view.
You should see the entire timeline with all the markers you placed in Vegas.
Click the marker that denotes the beginning of scene 2 and press the ‘O’ (for Out) key on the keyboard.
The In point for the first scene is automatically the beginning of the video.
Only the first scene should now be highlighted.
    Double-click “3: Christmas Play 2008”.
Click the 2nd marker (the start of scene 2, press the ‘I’ (In) button.
Click the 3rd marker and press the ‘O’ button.
Only the second scene should be highlighted.
Repeat this procedure for all your scenes.

I think I got the procedure, but the markers head way right as I go. Confusing to say the very least. The I (in) markers are right where they need to be when I double click the scene in the tree. I hit the O and they move down the timeline. The numbers don’t match the marks. Is this supposed to happen.

Here is an example of the project. The marker is on the 9 in point Marker (NUM) 10 is gone. There are 17 scenes counting the start. I did not place a marker at the start, but one is there???

Sorry for the delay Mike but my day job has a nasty habit of getting in the way of my ability to respond sometimes 🙂
To answer your last question first, no markers are needed at the beginning and end of the clip.

As far as setting in and out points, it’s obvious from the discussions so far that there are different ways of doing it and that’s great.
Here’s the way I do it using a test project I did up quickly.

Double-click 2:Untitled in the side menu and click the second marker.

    Press the I (In) key.
Notice that the beginning section is now dim and that the marker name changes from pic 2 to Scene/Chapter.

Finally, place your cursor on the next marker and press O (Out).
Only this section will be highlighted.
Repeat as required for all other sections.

I can certainly understand the toll the day job does to your time. I have been laid off for quite awhile which is allowing me to get back into this stuff somewhat.

I really appreciate the efforts of all of you there in the Creative Cow Vegas Forums. I got my project to where it is ready to mail. I will keep all of this great advice and help for future reference as I feel my way around the program. Things are much easier as it goes. Just a matter of of seeing what things do. I found myself digging too deep into the manuals and looking at tutorials on things I am not quite ready for yet. However, in time I hope to gather valid training materials from those who have been around the block a few times with the Vegas program and especially the support from all in here.

    Thanks again,

    Mike H
