Activity Forums VEGAS Pro DVDA: Add Narrative

    Hi,
Need some help. I’ve developed, using Vegas, a video “slide show” of stills, with music background. I then converted it into DVD, using DVD Architect (DVDA) and saved it as a DAR file. The resulting DVD played fine on several DVD players, and I’m happy with it.
Now I would like to add narrative (Using DVDA if possible) to the video, and then create a new DVD where the recipient can switch the narrative on or off (leaving the video and music as-is.)
It must be simple, but I can’t figure out how to get started adding the new audio narrative. So I could use some help in the form of simple “get started” instructions, or directions to a Tutorial.
(I can create the narrative either via a mike and DVDA – if I knew how) or I could create it using a camcorder, and throwing away the video portion.)
    Thank you in advance,

    John A

Create the narrative track in Vegas. If you want the original audio behind it, it will need to be in the “narrative” track as well. Once done, render in Vegas to WAV or AC3.

In DVD Architect, you’ll need to add the new file as a secondary audio track. Multiple audio tracks was added in DVD Architect 2. There is also a “DVDArchitect2NewFeatures.pdf” file that fully explains how to add the additional audio tracks. Menu buttons can be added to switch between audio tracks or the “alternate audio” button on the remote can be used.

    Thank you, Edward,
for your succinct but clear guidance.
I can render the two (original plus narrative) in Vegas and create a new combined audio and render it.
In DVDA 3, it has a feature: “Add Audio Track” (This adds another track below the existing one. I assume that’s what you are referring to? And this is where the rendered, combined audio track is inserted?)
In DVDA 3, you mention using the Menu for the viewers to toggle between one audio track or the other (combined) one. Does this imply that, in creating the DVD, I must use the “Menu Based” method, (or can I still use the “Single Movie” method?)

    Yes.

You *can* create a menu based DVD that has options to select which audio track is desired. However, you DO NOT have to do so. A “single movie” can also have multiple audio tracks but they’ll have to use the alternate audio button on the remote to switch which is no big deal.
