I need feedback on my current workflow to ensure high quality output. I’m preparing animations to be presented on a 42-inch plasma, via a DVD player. Here are my steps:

    1. Model/animate with Autodesk 3DS Max–output is a tiff sequence.
    2. Place the tiffs in a sequence in AfterEffects–export DV AVI
    3. Import DV AVI in Edius Pro to do some light video editing (in and out points, add music, fade in and out, etc)–export using Edius’ DVD settings, which creates a m2p file
    4. Import m2p file(s) into Encore and build DVD

I’ve watched the animations on a flat-screen hi-def TV and I think the quality is totally fine. The client has informed me that when shown on a plasma, the picture appears somewhat pixelated, as if the compression has sacrificed the quality (similar to what a .flv compression will do for the web). Advice?

    1. Export TIFF from 3dMax with luma levels 16…235
    2. Open tiff AS SEQUENCE in Edius (by DV-AVI you KILLLLLLL quality!!!)
    3. Export from Edius by using ProCoder Express with settings: 720×576, mastering quality, CBR!!! @ 8500
    4. Author in any software
