    Hi
I edit a montage of some original footage I shot for my demo reel. If I have a choice between taking the footage from a commercial DVD or from a Beta SP that was digitized to DV file, which will give me a better quality to begin with? Since the DVD footage might be copy protected, by disabling the copy protection, does it damage the quality? I need to start with the best quality possible and then make a 5 Min DVD of the footage.
    Thanks

I personally would use the DV files (4:1:1) since they are less compressed than the DVD (Mpeg2- 4:2:0) files, and the quality of compression on the DVD is variable between different encoders. If you use a camera/vcr to input the files you will end up with 4:1:0 instead of 4:1:1 of DV. Either way would proabably look great.

    Just my opinion.

    Thanks Scott,
Unfortunately, my Beta SP source has some video noise so I’m trying to locate a Digibeta source but if I can’t find, I’ll have to resort to DVD. When I encode my Beta SP source, it comes out ok at best, but that is not good enough in my business, I compete with spotless reels so I have to get the best quality possible.
    I’ll keep experimenting,
    Thanks again
    EG
