DVD to 720p24
Another dispatch from the frontiers of broadcasting!
As some of you may remember from a recent post, I’m the assistant editor of a two-hour doc that is proving very challenging technically.
The latest wrinkle is that I need to take news archive footage from DVD and make it available for the offline process. It doesn’t have to be pretty, it just has to work well enough to show work in progress. My best solution so far is to use Mpeg Streamclip to create a DV file, then use Compressor to bump it up to 720p24. (I originally tried going direct from DVD to 720p using Mpeg Streamclip, but the audio was out of sync.)
So the process of going from DVD to DV through Streamclip, and then to 720p via Compressor works (based on a short test), but in the process the video is stretched to widescreen. I added the letterbox filter, but couldn’t get it do what I wanted.
Is this too arcane?
