Client is supplying video on that dvd-rw shot with a Sony Handicam disc camcorder.
Can I capture that with my dvd player,—or will I need the camcorder to capture with firewire?
I do know that Vegas 6.0c is apparently set up to handle this media/format.
Anything special we need to know when weorking with these discs?

    No special treatment needed.

In Vegas, just select Import|DVD Camcorder disc to import your footage.

Personally, I would immediately turn around and render to a DV-AVI file. DV-AVI is much better for editing than MPEG2.

    Did that Jeremy.
    Window says no dsic available.
In fact the disc is in the machine.
Tried browsing to machine, but no luck,—just window with grayed out “OK”.
    Maybe a preference we’re overlooking?
    Thanks

Thanks Edward,—I appreciate that the quality would be better.
But I don’t have the camcorder only the disc.
And Vegas doesn’t see the disc in my DVD machine,—doesn’t recognize it.
Says “no disc available”. Like it’s not there,—but it is.

    Two things:

    1) If the disc isn’t recognize, it probably isn’t Finalized. You need to put it back in the camera and finalize it.

    2) I meant to pull the MPEG2 import onto the timeline and then render it to DV-AVI. Now just delete the MPEG2 import and edit using the new DV-AVI file.

I’ll have to find a camcorder then.
Will any camcorder do or must it be the one used to record this particular disc?

I now understand what you mean by rednering to AVI once the raw asset is imported. Will do that.
    Thanks.

I believe any DVD camcorder should do this. It might help if it’s the same brand.

Edward has got a point about the disc not being finalised or similar. I must be honest and say I haven’t worked with dvd camcorder footage.

I quote form the Help file:
From the File menu, choose Import, and then choose DVD Camcorder Disc from the submenu. The Import DVD Camcorder Disc dialog is displayed.

From the Source drop-down list, choose the disc that contains the video you want to import.

The Destination box displays the folder where the video will be imported. The folder name is based on the disc’s volume label.

Click the Browse button if you want to choose a different folder.

Click the OK button to start importing video.

After importing is complete, the video from the disc is added to the Project Media window.

You can then add the imported video to your project just like any other media file.

    Cheers
