dvd ripping and output
Hi
I ripped some videos from my dvd r discs that I recorded with my camcorder. The camcorder doesnt connect to a computer so the only way to edit is capturing from the dvd. Once I rip it I end with some mpeg files instead of AVI. Is that normal? I didnt find any settings on how to customize the capturing files. Is it supposed to be mpeg? Ok, after that I edited a few seconds as a test and noticed that in vegas, it runs kind of slow without me adding any slow motion to the clips. Anyway, I rendered it to an AVI file as a test and when I play it in mediaplayer or divx it runs slow also kind as a slow motion video. This is all done in vegas 7.Any advice??

MPEG is not an optimal format, but converting ripped MPEG to avi won’t improve the quality of the video, only the speed at which you can playback/edit. If your machine is slow, it may not efficiently playback MPEG content on the Vegas timeline, particularly if you’re using older versions of Vegas.

And MPEG is the language of DVDs, so that is what you will get when you rip a DVD.

So what is the optimal format? AVI?
Is there a way to convert the mpeg files I obtain when ripping to AVI? I know you said that it would not improve quality but would improve the way Vegas manage the edition using AVI instead of mpeg??
If so, do you know any freeware that does this conversion?
